The Drape Chair by Felix Low for Urban Foundry

The Drape Chair comes in a darker walnut or a lighter oak, and is made from molded plywood. Considering it’s name, the construction of the chair is self-explanatory - they laid a piece of molded plywood over the solid chair structure, making it solid, but also easy on the eye. A traditional wooden chair instantly transforms itself into a modern piece of art when the latest technologies are employed by the young designers at Urban Foundry.

Katra Chair by Aparte Studio

The Katra chair is the latest design from Aparte Studio. Katra chair design is intended minimalist lines Katra evoke the intrinsic qualities of the material: strength, lightness, a formal definition that only composites can be observed. The use of composite materials offers unique creative opportunities in the field of furniture particularly in terms of shapes, textures and innovative uses. However, the environmental and health impact associated with the use of such materials remains a problem. A composite of natural and necessary while mechanical properties of ramie had more than interesting. This fiber, from a variety of nettle is one of the most durable natural fibers, it has comparable or better quality glass fiber. Katra’s design reflects these qualities and represents the unique creative opportunities the furniture industry is just beginning to explore with the composite.

Chair and Furniture by Lotty Linderman

Since graduating in 2006 at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Lotty Lindeman has worked as an independent designer from her studio in Eindhoven. Lindeman works on products with craftsmanship and sense of material and her design work is modest and shows a refined eye for detail. I love how her furniture notes a spatial environment and evokes a dialogue between hand and object. In her studio and workshop which she share with another Dutch designer Wouter Scheublin, they both work on their own projects, commissions, small production series and unique pieces.

Wishbone Chair by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son

"In 1944, Danish designer Hans Wegner began a series of chairs that were inspired by portraits of Danish merchants sitting in Ming Chairs. One of these chairs was the Wishbone Chair (1949), also known as the “Y” or “CH-24,” which has been produced by the Danish firm Carl Hansen & Son since 1950. The son of a shoemaker, Wegner was trained as a cabinetmaker before attending the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, after which he began his career as an architect. Just three years later, Wegner started his own design office, and his work soon caught the eye of the folks at Carl Hansen & Son. The light, sculptural Wishbone Chair was exactly what the Hansen company was looking for to supplement the heavier forms that were popular at the time. However, the Wishbone was a challenging chair to make, as this steam-bent solid wood frame demands perfect craftsmanship and an intimate knowledge of wood joinery. Even today, the seat is still hand woven from paper cord, a durable material developed during WWII as a substitute for jute. Using the best natural materials, the sculptural Wishbone is made to last for generations and offers outstanding sitting comfort. Made in Denmark."
