Best stools made of cork

Hello today I would like to show you my favorite examples of Stools made of cork.
Let us pay little attention to this wonderful material.
Cork is composed of suberin, a hydrophobic substance and, because of its impermeable, buoyant, elastic, and fire retardant properties, it is used in a variety of products, the most common of which is wine stoppers. The montado landscape of Portugal produces approximately half of cork harvested annually worldwide.
Once the trees are about 25 years old the cork is traditionally stripped from the trunks every nine years, with the first two harvests generally producing lower quality cork. The trees live for about 300 years.
The cork industry is generally regarded as environmentally friendly.Cork production is generally considered sustainable because the cork tree is not cut down to obtain cork; only the bark is stripped to harvest the cork.[5] The tree continues to live and grow. The sustainability of production and the easy recycling of cork products and by-products are two of its most distinctive aspects.

Monarchy stool by Yiannis Ghikas

"Monarchy is a stool, it is a rocking stool.
It rocks sideways and it rocks back and forth. Monarchy also swivels.
Monarchy is designed not to be overturned but at the same time allows the user to escape the dullness of the ultimate stability.

The Monarchy Stool is so-named because, apart from the fact that it has a crown-like shape, it has been designed so that it is difficult to tip over. As a regime, a monarchy enforces stability. The Monarchy Stool , however, allows the user to escape the dullness of ultimate stability – an intentional contradiction.
The Monarchy Stool is a convenient for occasional sitting or simply when an extra seat is needed. Its design aims to offer freedom of movement. You can change your orientation with a push of your legs. Reaching out for nearby objects is easily done by bending over and shifting your weight. Furthermore, and most importantly, the stool has the capacity to satisfy your body’s inherent expressional needs while being seated.
The balancing process creates a playful userobject relationship. The stool explores the idea that when seated, many people feel the need to be free from enforced bodily positions. Instructions of the use of The Monarchy Stool are completely useless as the body will become tuned to the stool on a subconscious level – as though the stool is an extension of the body. Although it can be used in a number of contexts, the designer does not recommend the use of The Monarchy Stool for changing light bulbs!"

BALANCE STOOL BY DARRYL AGAWIN

Canadian designer Darryl Agawin helps user to exercise core muscles while they sat in front of their desk. The stool is an extension of a furniture range Agawin designed to offer busy workers the chance to exercise in the office.

The Balance Stool is made of wood reclaimed from ash trees destroyed by pests such as the emerald ash borer. Each element of the stool is made using computer numerically controlled (CNC) techniques and the legs are then friction fitted into holes in the underside of the seat. The wood is finished with a traditional Danish technique in which pure soap flakes are made into a paste with hot water and applied to the surface of the furniture.

"The concept behind the original No, Sweat! Workspace Workout furniture collection is to help promote an active lifestyle in the work environment. It's not only about finding the time for exercise, but about incorporating it in your daily routines, from taking the stairs, going for a walk and, with the Balance Stool, engaging and strengthening your core muscles in a passive activity. This activity becomes a part of your life, promoting a healthier lifestyle without you realising it." the designer told

DERELICT FURNITURE BY TÕNIS KALVE & AHTI GRÜNBERG

"Derelict Furniture by Tõnis Kalve & Ahti Grünbergreclaims wood from industrial scrap, selected woodpiles and abandoned sheds, upcycling it into fine furnishings, where imperfections add distinction.
Sources include the likes of "a restricted Czarist-era military building on a distant Baltic coast," "a time-worn camping shed," or the "decaying cafeteria terrace of the 1920's Tallinn Hippodrome." Markings on packing remnants are retained. Wood is cleaned and match to pieces, each of which comes numbered and with its provenance story.
Derelict Furniture, the brand and company, is the concept of Tõnis Kalve and Ahti Grünberg, both architects and interior designers, working from Tallinn, Estonia."
